Voigt–reuss Topology Optimization for Structures with Linear Elastic Material Behaviours

چکیده
The desired results of variable topology material layout computations are stable and discrete material distributions that optimize the performance of structural systems. To achieve such material layout designs a continuous topology design framework based on hybrid combinations of classical Reuss (compliant) and Voigt (sti ) mixing rules is investigated. To avoid checkerboarding instabilities, the continuous topology optimization formulation is coupled with a novel spatial ltering procedure. The issue of obtaining globally optimal discrete layout designs with the proposed formulation is investigated using a continuation method which gradually transitions from the sti Voigt formulation to the compliant Reuss formulation. The very good performance of the proposed methods is demonstrated on four structural topology design optimization problems from the literature. ? 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Int. J. Numer. Meth. On the Six Node Hexagon Elements for Continuum Topology Optimization of Plates Carrying in Plane Loading and Shell Structures Carrying out of Plane Loading
The need of polygonal elements to represent the domain is gaining interest among structural engineers. The objective is to perform static analysis and topology optimization of a given continuum domain using the rational fraction type shape functions of six node hexagonal elements. In this paper, the main focus is to perform the topology optimization of two-dimensional plate structures using Evo...
متن کاملDependence of the X-Ray Elastic Constants on the Diffraction Plane
The calibration constants that link the peak-shift measured with X-rays to the macroscopic stress acting on the material are termed X-ray elastic constants. These terms contain both material parameters such as the elastic stiffness or compliance terms and configurational parameters caused by the Miller indices of the diffracting plane of the corresponding crystal structure. The configurational ...
متن کاملDesign of smart composite materials using topology optimization
The topology optimization method is used to find the distribution of material phases that extremizes an objective function (e.g., thermal expansion coefficient, piezoelectric coefficients etc) subject to constraints, such as elastic symmetry and volume fractions of the constituent phases, within a periodic base cell. The effective properties of the material structures are found using a numerica...
متن کاملNew Estimates of the Third-order Elastic Constants for Isotropic Aggregates of Cubic Crystals
An improved method, based on an extension of the self-consistent method from the linear theory, is proposed to evaluate the effective third-order elastic constants for isotropic aggregates of cubic crystals. The calculated constants are compared with the Voigt and Reuss-type estimates, which are currently the only other analytical estimates available for these constants. The agreement between c...
متن کاملISOGEOMETRIC TOPOLOGY OPTIMIZATION OF STRUCTURES CONSIDERING WEIGHT MINIMIZATION AND LOCAL STRESS CONSTRAINTS
The Isogeometric Analysis (IA) is utilized for structural topology optimization considering minimization of weight and local stress constraints. For this purpose, material density of the structure is assumed as a continuous function throughout the design domain and approximated using the Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline (NURBS) basis functions. Control points of the density surface are...
